At Sunshine Smiles of Orange County, family is more important than ever. This is just one of the reasons we welcome your children to our office to see Dr. Mikaeya Kalantari, our pediatric dentist.
It is important to get your children off on the proper path when it comes to taking care of their oral health. By making regular dental visits a part of your child’s healthcare routine from a young age, he or she is more inclined to visit the dentist regularly as an adult. Preventive care today can make a difference in their oral health tomorrow.
Dr. Kalantari recommends that children start visiting the dentist by the time they are three years old. Of course, if you have concerns and would like us to see your child before that, just let us know!
Your Child’s First Pediatric Dentist Visit
Your child’s first spin in the dental chair is a milestone, and we will do our best to ensure it is a pleasant experience for you and your kids.
At your child’s first visit, we take our time so your little ones can grow accustomed to being at the dentist. We will brush his or her teeth and examine your child’s mouth to make sure everything looks normal. Our team realizes that young attention spans are limited, so we will work efficiently. The first visit is primarily about getting kids comfortable in the dental chair and with the office environment.
Our hygienist will also take some time to ensure parents know how they should be caring for their child’s teeth. Most children will need help with flossing and brushing until they are at least eight years old. Smaller kids just don’t have the dexterity needed to brush and floss on their own. We can also recommend tools that can make taking care of your child’s teeth easier.
Professional Dental Cleaning and Examination for Your Child
As soon as your child is old enough for a professional cleaning, our hygienist will ensure that any plaque or tartar buildup is completely removed.
We will also start to take annual x-rays on our pediatric patients so we can identify decay and make sure permanent teeth are growing in the way they are supposed to. If we find anything that looks like a potential problem, we will let you know immediately.
We will also discuss fluoride treatment and sealants with parents at this time. Both of these preventive measures can help prevent cavities from developing.
A Positive Experience for You and Your Child
By creating a positive, interactive environment for children and involving them in their own oral health, we hope to create a healthy smile for life. We are committed to creating a supportive partnership with kids and parents to make oral health a priority.
We look forward to meeting you and your children. We are committed to providing the best in dental care for our patients of all ages. Call our office today to schedule an appointment!
